Ne-Yo Appointed Senior VP of A&R at Motown Records

In the latest step to strengthen the new Motown Records, a division of Universal Music Group (UMG), acclaimed artist Ne-Yo will move from Def Jam Recordings to Motown along with his label imprint Compound Entertainment, and will also take on a creative role at Motown as the new Senior Vice President of A&R, it was announced today by Barry Weiss, Chairman & CEO of Universal Republic and Island Def Jam Motown, and Ethiopia Habtemariam, Senior Vice President, Motown Records.

Based in New York, the multi-platinum, three-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist Ne-Yo will continue to work on his eagerly awaited fifth studio album, expected for summer release as his Motown debut. At the same time, Ne-Yo will take on A&R duties at Motown, serving as a producer and mentor to the label’s artists, as well as seeking out and signing new talent to the label. Ne-Yo, who has a co-starring role in Red Tails, the new George Lucas WWII movie about the U.S. Army Air Corps’ Tuskegee Airmen fighter pilots, will also be seen on NBC television’s upcoming season of The Voice, as a mentor for Cee-Lo Green’s team.

“Ne-Yo is an enormously talented artist, songwriter, and producer,” said Mr. Weiss, “in fact, he’s one of the greatest songwriters of our times. His track record of success at Def Jam will always be a benchmark. But this move to Motown will provide new and inspiring challenges for Ne-Yo, as both an artist and a key member of the new senior management team that is taking form at the label in 2012.”

“We are honored and humbled to have Ne-Yo as a part of the Motown family, as both a recording artist and in an A&R role,” said Ms. Habtemariam, who has recently taken the reins at the historic label. “We are committed to discovering, developing and nurturing R&B/Soul superstars here at Motown and in Ne-Yo we have both a global superstar and arguably one of the best songwriters in music. His presence on the executive team only strengthens our commitment to the very best in R&B.”

Just that quick, it’s all over according to breaking news reports on the couple this afternoon who were supposed to tie the knot in June or July.

Comedian/Actor Tracy Morgan Rushed to Hospital

Comedian/Actor Tracy Morgan collapsed outside of a Sundance Film Festival charity event after receiving an award. An ambulance rushed him, and his fiancee Megan Wollover, to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Morgan was attending the Creative Coalition Spotlight Awards where he was being honored on Sunday. After his speech, he was escorted out of the building where he fell unconscious.

He was taken to Park City Medical Center and his current condition in unknown. A spokeswoman for the hospital stated that no drugs or alcohol were found in Tracy’s system upon medical evaluation.

Texas Police Shoot, Kill Armed Middle School Student

Police shot and killed an armed 15-year old. The student was an eighth grader in a Brownsville middle school. The police arrived on the scene at 8:00 a.m. today after they received a call about an individual in possession of a gun at Cummings Middle School. Police officers encountered the armed student in a hallway and shot him. The student was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville where he was pronounced dead.

Nick Cannon Hospitalized for Kidney Failure

Entertainment mogul Nick Cannon has been hospitalized, after reportedly suffering mild kidney failure. Wife Mariah Carey posted a picture of herself in bed with her hubby, who appears to be asleep while hooked up to a monitor, on her official website.

Carey relayed the following message to all of her fans:

This is us in the hospital – role reversal; Last year it was me attached to the machines (after having dembabies) and Nick was there with me through it, and now here we are.

We’re trying to be as festive as possible under the circumstances but please keep Nick in your thoughts because this is very painful. They tried to kick me out of the hospital but here I am pon de bed with Mr. C.

We’re doing OK but we’re “straaaaaanded in Aspen”. #DramaticDivaPlace (I know, we could be in a lot worse places) but the truth is as long as we’re together, we’re OK. I’m not trying to make light out of the situation because it’s a serious moment that’s very tough on all of us so please keep us and our family in your prayers. LYM.

Cannon and Carey, who have renewed their marital vows annually since they wed three years ago, were vacationing in the snow playground of the rich and famous with their 8-month-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan. Cannon fell ill on Wednesday and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, Carey took to Twitter and tweeted not only the same picture she posted on her website but the following plea:

Please pray for Nick as he’s fighting to recover from a mild kidney failure.
