There were many running jokes on the hit Fox television show, Martin. From Bruh-Man on the 5th floor to Cole Brown’s love of his mysterious and overweight girlfriend, Big Shirley, all the characters made the show a classic.

But if there was one running joke that truly peaked our curiosity, it was the occupation of Tommy Strawn played by Thomas Mikal Ford.

Nearly 20 years after the show ended, Tisha Campbell-Martin revealed this week what his true occupation was. During a BOSSIP podcast interview the actress who played the lead’s love interest, Gina Waters-Payne, finally let the world know what Tommy’s job was.

“Tommy really did have a job, I’ll give you a hint,” she slyly noted. “The woman I was gonna fight, she was Martin’s teacher; Beverly Johnson, in that episode that’s the first time you hear about Tommy’s job. So Tommy talks about him being in the Boys & Girls Club. He was a counselor at the Boys & Girls Club. That’s what he did for a living.”

She goes on to say that Ford disliked the fact that his character wasn’t developing. “‘No one knows what I do for a job, they keep asking me what I do!’” Campbell-Martin quotes Ford. “So then they started putting in the script that Tommy has no job.”

Looking back, we feel kind of bad for Tommy who was constantly chastised for his lack of employment. If he really did have a job working with kids, it would have served for hilarious material, no doubt.

With that said though, someone needs to call up Martin Lawrence or Bentley Kyle Evans to verify this information. Because no diss to Tisha, but we need receipts on this so called job.
