Janay Rice, wife of Ray Rice, made her appearance on the “Today” show to talk about what went down in the Atlantic City casino elevator back in February. She believes that it happened for a reason — specifically due to God — so she and her husband can bring awareness for domestic violence.
She appeared on the show with her mother, Candy Palmer, and she said to Matt Lauer that this was the first and only time that Ray hit her. Janay said that if he did it before, then there would be no way that she would “sit there in silence and let something happen to me, and, God forbid, in front of my child”. The real chatter about the incident didn’t start until the tape was released to TMZ in September.
Janay told The Today Show’s Matt Lauer:
“I feel like God chose me and Ray for a reason, and it was definitely to bring awareness to what people are going through every day.”
“Even though it’s not what I am going through every day, but it’s definitely brought this topic to the forefront… and we are OK with that.”
