Woman wounded in Detroit drive-by shooting

A drive-by shooting left a 23-year-old woman hospitalized Tuesday morning. Police say shots were fired into a home on Wayburn just after 8 a.m, prompting a resident inside the house to grab his gun

Police say there could have been more victims. Children were also inside the home when shots were fired. The shooting is still under investigation but Parker, who moved to the neighborhood a year ago, wishes the violence would go away. The suspects fled in the a black Oldsmobile but police want to make sure they don’t get far.

If you have any info on the vehicle or the suspects contact police at (313) 596-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP.

15-Year-Old Girl Missing In Detroit

A Detroit mother is worried about her 15-year-old daughter who’s been missing since Monday afternoon. RaeAnna Hamilton was last seen Nov. 10 at her home in the 17300 block of Roselawn in Detroit.

Mother Kim Milton told police that RaeAnna left behind a note that indicated she would call her, but Milton says she hasn’t seen or heard from since the two shared a cup of coffee at around 8 a.m. that day. Milton said she’s been doing everything she can to find her daughter.

RaeAnna is described as a black female, around 5 feet, 2 inches tall and 110 lbs. with a medium brown complexion, medium-length black hair, brown eyes and a small build. She was last seen wearing a white knit sweater with fur around the hood, a camouflage jacket and brown boots.

Police said she’s believed to be in good mental and physical condition. If anyone has seen RaeAnna is asked to call Detroit Police Criminal Investigations at 313-596-1240.

Drivers rear-ended, robbed at gunpoint

It’s happened at least twice in the last four days — unsuspecting drivers rear-ended. Then when they get out to look at the damage, they’re carjacked at gunpoint.

The “bump and jack” has Berry saying, “Oh no, not again.”

“It’s been happening for 30 years in Detroit,” he said. “It kind of comes and goes. (It’s) usually a couple of groups. They know people won’t stop on side streets, so usually it’s a four-lane road or two-lane road. They want you to stop, want you to get out and let your guard. Once you do, up comes the gun. ‘Get out of the car. Where your purse?’”

That’s exactly what happen to a 26-year-old woman Sunday around 2 p.m. She was rear-ended at Grand River and Whitney. She got out to check the damages and found herself staring down the barrel of a gun. The man robbed her and then took off in her Dodge Charger.

Police reports show last Friday at 1:40 a.m. a 38-year-old man was driving on Strathmoor when he was bumped in the back. The two armed robbers didn’t take his car, but they stole his wallet and jewelry worth more than $12,000.

So what should you do if someone rams into the back of you car?

“If you feel anything is wrong, do not stop,” Berry said. “Get on the phone with 911 (and) drive to police station. You’re not violating any law.”

Community unites for families left homeless from southwest Detroit fires

A block in southwest Detroit went up in flames after a house explosion Nov. 7. In some cases, the only thing left were the front porches.

The community came together to help those left homeless with a fundraiser Tuesday.

Seven houses are homes no more on Oakdale. Something good has risen from the blast, the charges for a man believed to be responsible.

What came from the catastrophe was kindness.

“(This is) an amazing networking and community effort to help all these families,” said Jessica Ramirez of Detroiters Helping Each Other. “I’ve had numerous donations come to my house from clothing, food, diapers, furniture.

“We have companies stepping up to repair roofs, people offering free apartments for the families. It’s just an amazing work of the community coming together.”

The victims are overwhelmed by the willingness to give. The generosity of strangers is something that can help heal the heart. The Detroit Tigers were able to donate auction and raffle items to the fundraiser, helping those who have lost their homes. So many have stepped up to help the victims of the fire and you can too.
