Lions rally late for 24-23 win over Saints

Matthew Stafford threw two touchdown passes in the final 3:38, including the winner to Corey Fuller with 1:48 remaining, and the Detroit Lions rallied for a 24-23 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The Saints (2-4) were in control late in the fourth quarter when Stafford found Golden Tate for a 73-yard catch-and-run that made it 23-17. Then Drew Brees was intercepted on third down by Glover Quin, whose 23-yard return gave the Lions (5-2) the ball at the New Orleans 14.

Detroit caught a break when Rafael Bush was called for pass interference on fourth down. Stafford eventually connected with Fuller in the back of the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown and the win.

Liberian man in metro Detroit being monitored as Ebola precaution

Oakland County is keeping a close eye on a man from Liberia who recently arrived in metro Detroit to stay with a relative. So far he is not showing any signs of Ebola, but officials are not taking any chances. The man is staying at a house in Oakland County and has voluntarily agreed not to leave this house. His flight to Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus was a final destination. He had flown from Liberia to New York City and then to Detroit. George Miller, director of the Oakland County Department of Health said that when the man arrived in New York City from Liberia on Oct. 14, he was screened by the CDC and had no symptoms or temperature.

He says he had no contact in Liberia with anyone known to have the Ebola virus, but as a precaution, he has agreed to stay in the Oak Park home of the family member he is visiting. Oakland County says monitoring anyone from Ebola stricken areas for 21 days is the right thing to do. Fox 2 asked viewers if the U.S. should restrict travel from Ebola-stricken areas and got mixed reactions. Basil Gayos moved to Michigan from Cameroon. He has never been in a known Ebola area, but said it is a hard question.

Former Romulus police chief sentenced for running criminal enterprise

Another chapter in the Romulus Police Department scandal comes to a close. A Wayne County Circuit Court judge sentenced former police chief Michael St. Andre to five to 20 years in prison. St. Andre reached a deal with prosecutors, he pled “no contest” to charges of running a criminal enterprise and misconduct in office.

An investigation uncovered drug forfeiture money being used to pay for prostitutes, alcohol and marijuana. The former chief was also accused of embezzling money to get a tanning salon for his wife. She’s already been sentenced to seven to twenty years in prison. Three other police officers who pled “no contest” in the corruption case are set to be sentenced later this month.

13-year-old Detroit girl robbed at gunpoint by another teenage girl

A concerned father is warning his neighbors to be on the lookout after his 13-year-old daughter was robbed at gunpoint by another teenage girl.

Mohammed Almansuri said the incident – which was caught on security cameras outside his house – happened around 1:30 p.m. Saturday while his daughter was taking a walk in the 6400 block of Memorial St. near Warren and M-39. The surveillance video shows a girl wearing a baseball cap approaching Almansuri’s daughter, Yasemin. Yasemin said the girl talked to her for about 15 minutes, asking her what her name was, how old she was and what school she attended. Almansuri said the girl asked his daughter if she could borrow her phone. The girl then pulled out a gun from under her shirt and threatened to shoot if Yasemin didn’t hand over all her belongings. When Yasemin yelled for help, the girl ran away.

Almansuri filed a police report Saturday. The girl told Yasemin she’s 15 years old and attends Cody High School. She’s described as being about 5-foot-6. She was seen wearing a black jacket, black sweat pants, black boots and a blue baseball cap. Almansuri said he has seen the girl in the neighborhood before. His biggest concern, now that his daughter is safe, is that the teenage robber will strike again. Detroit police told Almansuri an investigator will follow up with him Monday.
