Frank Ocen Says Coming Out Was A Heroic Moment For Himself

For the first time in about a month, the Frank Ocean’s coming out moment has finally died down, and he’s conducted an interview with the Guardian about his decision.

He first came out about his sexuality on his Tumblr blog July 3, detailing a relationship he had with another man. Shortly after that, gossip mill was at a all time high and he received all types of responses.

Many people believe it was all a marketing scheme. However, Frank said he didn’t do it to boost album sales, but to relieve his own stress.

Coming out was “about my own sanity and my ability to feel like I’m living a life where I’m happy when I wake up in the morning, and not with this freakin’ boulder on my chest,” Ocean said

“I wished at 13 there was somebody I looked up to who would have said something like that, who would have been transparent in that way.”

As taboo as the topic is, he did receive tons of support from his peers, including Beyoncé, Russell Simmons and 50 Cent.

“People are just afraid of things too much. Sure, evil exists, extremism exists. Somebody could commit a hate crime and hurt me. But they could do the same just because I’m black,” he said. “They could do the same just because I’m American.”
