Sitting here daydreaming at the end of a long workday about attending one of the country’s largest gatherings of avid music fans nearly makes my head hurt. The annual Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is just a few days away and of course, like many of us, no tickets are sitting on my desk for all to see. Instead, many will probably flock to computer screens and mobile devices to catch a glimpse of the sea of thousands who brave the heat for the next two weekends in a row.

However, if I was going, it’d be not only my first Coachella experience in person, but I’d definitely need to be prepared since I wasn’t last year. Unfortunately, I had my wisdom teeth taken out that same weekend so I literally watched the entire round of performances going on for as long as I could each on each stage from the foot of my bed with pillows, butter pecan ice cream and two bottles of pain medicine within arms reach. Talk about the ultimate VIP experience.

None of that stopped me from enjoying the likes (and spectacles) of Lauryn Hill, Nas & Damien Marley, Kanye West or Erykah Badu, so I’m looking forward to being prepared from a distance this year without both sides of my face throbbing. If you’re one of the lucky ones who grabbed your tickets for the highly anticipated two-weekend extravaganza, (Coachella 2012 tickets went on sale on Jan 13th at 10am and were sold out by 1pm PST. This was by far the festival’s fastest sell out to date.) then kudos to you.

In the meantime, in my air conditioned living room on the east coast, I’ll offer one of the most hilarious set of tips for attending Coachella all by your lonesome. Grab a pen and pad and take notes from a few of our Internet buddies who are there every single year via the links below.
